What would a year of miracles look like for you? Would it look like physical healing from pain, or breakthrough from financial oppression, or those family members finally coming to know their Saviour Jesus, or perhaps seeing that dream that has been hidden away in your heart become a reality? At the close of 2017 whether you find yourself on the mountain top of victory or in the valley crying out to God for help, you can make 2018 a year of miracles. What a spectacular and remarkable year that would be! So how can we make 2018 a year of miracles?

Our expectation as we enter 2018 can create an atmosphere of doubt or it can create an atmosphere that is pregnant with miracles. We already have an expectation for 2018 whether we have consciously thought about it or not and it’s this expectation that is vital if we want to make 2018 a year of miracles. So, let’s journey together and discover how we can cultivate a faith-filled expectation that will prepare us for a year of miracles!

Expectations

Have you ever met one of those people who never expects anything to turn out right for them? They always expect the worst and negativity is their go-to response. Negativity is the enemy of faith. If we want to make 2018 a year of miracles, then we need to speak the language of faith. Faith language speaks with a confident expectation for good things!

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13)

The disappointments and setbacks of 2017 can leave us questioning when we are going to experience the favour and miracles of God? We are not alone; Asaph the psalmist was crying out to God from a place of distress when he wrote Psalm 77.

“Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favour again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” (Psalm 77:7-9)

Problems are a perquisite for miracles, so if we’re in a place of distress, if we’re questioning how 2018 could possibly be a year of miracles for us then we are in the perfect place! Our problems are opportunities for miracles.

To cultivate a faith-filled expectation for the miraculous in 2018 we must look back, look up and look forward.

Look Back

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” (Psalm 77:11-12)

The psalmist began to look back and remind himself of the miracles that God had already done, he looked back to the faithfulness of God and all His mighty works.

At the outset of 2018 let’s look back and remind ourself of what God has already done in our life, the miracles He has performed and the breakthroughs He has orchestrated. As the expectation rises we can begin to remind ourselves of the promises that are yet to be fulfilled and speak words of faith into them. Faith dwells in possibility. We may see our reality, but we can choose to live in the reality of God’s possibilities. As we continually deposit words of faith into our hearts, when doubt and discouragement come our faith deposits will not allow us to dwell there very long. Look back, and then look up.

Look Up

“You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.” (Psalm 77:14)

The psalmist cultivated a faith-filled expectation by looking back and then shifting his thoughts from his current circumstances to his miraculous God. We need to take our eyes off our circumstances, look up, and see that the God who performs miracles and displays His power among the people is with us! The God who created the universe, who holds the stars in their place, who heals and restores, who provides and sustains, He is with us in our 2018. Let’s lift our eyes and lift our expectation, the all-powerful miracle working God is already in 2018 ready to make it a year of miracles. Faith and expectancy that is based on the Word of God activates miracles. If He has done it before, He can do it again!

Look Forward

When we look back with a grateful heart at all the miracles God has already done, and look up to set our eyes on that same God who is still with us now, we cultivate a faith-filled expectation that allows us to look forward to 2018, a year of miracles. Be courageous and speak into the future with faith. We can stand confident in His promises knowing that He is always faithful to the future He has spoken over us in His Word.

“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19)

We stand on the brink of 2018 and we take a moment to look back with gratitude, look up to the God who is with us and look forward to the year ahead that is pregnant with miracles! As we take time to do this we cultivate a faith-filled expectation that will make 2018 a year of miracles. Keep speaking the miracle-activating faith language over your circumstances and prepare to stand in awe at all God is about to do.

Can you feel your expectation shifting for 2018? Dare to believe that you are about to step into a year of miracles.
