6 Great Tips for the Christian Mommy Blogger

“We write to know ourselves, we write to know each other and we write to know God.” Author Michele Cushatt

It is essential that as Christian mothers, we take the time to blog. In doing so, we love, take and give back. We worship, connect and most importantly, we obey our great God. By following the guideposts below, you will be well on your way to a new understanding of just how wonderful this journey is, as a writer and explorer and entrepreneur. You will sweetly reap what you sow and your heart and soul will be touched in ways that can only be imagined. You will be given the ability to unleash your inner super powers; powers that Jesus provides and entrusts to those who will say, “Yes Lord…I will!”

1) Blog to Promote God and Jesus

We have an evangelical duty to share our lives and our story with others. Our testimony is a huge asset in teaching and promoting God’s story. His invitation to salvation can best be received and understood by sharing your own journey and the details of how an intimate relationship with Jesus happened for you. How he has touched, healed and turned your life around from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs. To a place of internal peace and serenity, all souls long to find.

2) Blog to Connect, Love and Encourage others

As mothers, we are natural connectors and we long to share a piece of ourselves with another person. We need to know that what we are facing may be very difficult but there is someone else out there who has been through it and can advise and guide us through. God says, “Therefore confess your sins to each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16) You never know when you might have something to say or share that will encourage another woman who may be at her wits end. “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

3) Blog to Embrace Humility and Practice Forgiveness

“Humble yourselves, therefore under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. ” (1 Peter 5:6) We are called to be humble and often times it is truly humbling to share things about our lives, our intimate, and private behind the doors and gates lives. But, people, God cannot forgive us until we humbly step out in faith and share what is really going on in our homes and lives. He sends these lessons for a reason. When we are willing to share our mess with others, it is then and only then that we can truly be healed and forgiven. When we practice forgiving our children and whomever, we show and model Christianity and leadership.

4) Blog to Practice Obedience

It is essential that we get vulnerable and share things that God is calling us to share. By trusting and being obedient, God turns on your superpowers and turns your mistakes and life’s trials into opportunities. He allows you to be a hero, as you let conviction in your heart and gut motivate and guide you.

5) Blog to Be Transparent and Raw

Once you are courageous and brave enough to jump off the transparency cliff for God, you must know that with that kind of trust and surrender, you are given a gift that is of no comparison to that which you gave. When you open up your life for him, the gift you are given back has no boundaries. His blessings will chase you down. You have a voice and need to own it. You have a unique perspective and are credible and need to be heard!

6) Blog to create an online Small Group

We need a place to know others and to be known. It is a deep need that has been placed in our hearts by God himself. He also has placed a need in our heart to know and be known by him. As his dear children, we need places to connect with other women and help each other on the journey. In person small groups are something many of us have experienced and hopefully received much from. A blog is an online version of the same idea and has just as many powerful benefits. We are online therapy for one another and heal, grow and thrive together.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there is nothing greater than or more important than, mothers looking out for each other and themselves. It is survival when you choose to bring children into the world and as Christians; we are conquering demons on a daily basis. It is not hard to imagine how many trials and issues are born daily due to the complex mixture of these two elements. We are pillars of the community, often under the pressure of unrealistic demands and expectations.

The responsibility on our shoulders is nothing short of monumental. We must find love and a judgment free environment, in our time of need. We are called to share what we know and have learned through trial and error. Motherhood was not given to us so that our lives would be easy. Motherhood is a gift that grows us, where we learn as much as we teach. It is a way we get to know God and our great need for his son Jesus Christ.

How To Be A Christian Blogger: 6 Great Tips

So you want to be a Christian blogger? Great! In the predominantly degenerate cyberspace, sanity and morality need to be restored by Christian bloggers. These are Christ-driven bloggers who influence the largely unchurched “Cyber Junkies.”

In the past, blogging used to be a simple way for people to journal their lives but that has radically changed over the years. Blogs have evolved into living magazines that impact thousands of lives.

As with all things technological though, Christians are lagging behind. Even though Christian blogs do exist, they are heavily outnumbered. Here’s the good news: there’s an online revival taking place where more and more Christian bloggers are emerging and commanding huge followings.

Who knows, you could be the next agent of revival through your upcoming blog.

I hope I have tickled your ears and ignited a spark in your heart to be part of this revival. The question, however, is how do you become a Christian blogger? I’ll give you 6 great tips.

1)  Have a Vision for Your Blog

Before you sign up for WordPress, Wix or whatever platform you prefer, write down a vision for your blog. What do you ultimately want to achieve with your blog?

  • Is it a way to journal your experiences and the lessons you learn? One Christian who decided to share her spiritual journey is Carol Hind. She posts regularly about the lessons she learns in life and shares other people’s inspirational stories.
  • Perhaps you want to be a cyber missionary and spark a viral revival like Christian Media Magazine. Cyber missionaries are a noble breed that reach the seemingly hard to reach people online.
  • Or maybe you want it to be an ethical, moral and Christ-centred money making machine. I know a Christian blogger or two who fit that description. If you resonate with this idea, check out Brandon Cox, a pastor, entrepreneur and serial blogger running 30+ (yes, 30+) websites. Bob Lotich is another Christian blogger worth checking out if you’re more into the financial dimension of blogging.

With these examples in mind, I am sure you’re well equipped to come up with a clear vision for your blog.

2) Map Out a Strategy

To be relevant, you need to determine how you’ll fulfill your vision. You need to strategize.

Vision deals with the future or outcome of your blog. Strategy has to do with the practical steps you will take to get there.

To map out your strategy, it’s essential that you ask yourself a few questions:

  • Who is your target audience?
  • What will you blog about?
  • Which platform will you use?
  • Self hosted or a free platform?

Your answers to these critical questions will set you on the path of being a traffic-attracting blogger.

3) Pick the Right Home for Your Blog

Now that you have a clear vision and you are eager to blaze your trail in cyberspace, you’re probably asking yourself, “Where do I start?”

Get a good host and platform for your website.

This may sound complicated and highly technical but it isn’t. It’s actually similar to looking for a church to “host” your spiritual life.

Your host and platform will be determined by the answers to the vision question in step one above.

  • If your blog is a personal journal; a free WordPress, Tumblr or other free platform will be good enough. The only downside is that you’ll be living on rented property. In short, you have no security.
  • On the other hand, if your blog is a missions arm or a for profit blog, consider the array of paid hosting options available. Paid hosting gives you the flexibility to design and secure your blog in ways a free plan cannot. Oh, and it looks more professional.

With a good host, you now have a virtual pulpit to broadcast your redemptive message.

4) Join a Community (or 10)

A blog is all about reaching readers. For a start up blog, the best way is to join a community of fellow bloggers and interact with them and their audience.

Cyberspace is a vast universe. Navigating it alone is a sure way to fail. This is why you have to leverage community. Taking part in communities of kindred spirit and ideas is a great way of borrowing other people’s audience (and ideas). It jumpstarts your blogging journey.

Participating in a community will help you get noticed and drive traffic to your blog. Not just any traffic mind you, but like minded bloggers and, if your content is good, their “tribe” as well.

5) Have a Solid Marketing Strategy

Yes I used the dreaded ‘M’ word, marketing. Don’t worry, I don’t mean cajoling people to buy a sub standard product from you.

For any blog to succeed, it has to be marketed. Develop a strategy for letting people know and connect with what you’re doing. This is where your core message and niche, comes in. They will determine how and to whom you will market your blog.

Reach out to your target audience in the nooks and crannies of the net. Go where they hangout.

Get your blog out there. Eager readers are waiting for your insight.

6) Refuse To Quit

A fledging blogger needs determination. The blogosphere can be a very demoralizing especially for a newbie blogger. Refuse to quit.

It’s a common misconception among newbies that the moment they hit the ‘publish’ button, the entire population of internet will flock to their blog.

The truth is that it takes time, effort, patience and determination to build a successful blog, more so a Christian blog.

Put on your thick skin and plod on. Remember, every great endeavour calls for blood, sweat and tears.

Dear Christian blogger, don’t give up.
