Father’s Day is more than just a day to honor the men that helped bring us into the world, but it is a day to celebrate the men that made us who we are today. This very important day is designed to acknowledge and offer praise, appreciation as well as gratitude to men we call fathers, whether it be by blood relation or mentorship.

Most people believe that Father’s Day is only about giving gifts, but seem to ignore the fact that this holiday is meant to strengthen the distinct bond of a relationship between a father and his children. Being a father is a blessing directly from God and is God’s gift to us.

Oftentimes, one never really hears of hymns dedicated to celebrating the beauty of fatherhood. In this article, I will list the 7 great hymns for a delightful day such as Father’s Day.

1. Safe in His Arms

by Milton Brunson & The Thompson Community Choir

This song would send one into a deep worship and discovering of a newfound adoration to fathers. This hymn goes into detail about finding safety, comfort and rest in the loving arms of God, as well as being hidden away from the rest of the world and its troubles. We find and take refuge in our fathers who protect us from anything that we find troubling or too much. In our fathers’ arms, we can rest assured that we cannot be touched or harmed no matter what happens.

2. My Everything

by Richard Smallwood

This hymn is a Gospel classic! It is a perfect Father’s Day hymn because it talks about how God is our everything. A lot of us who have had or has great fathers can relate to this song because we think of our fathers being the apple of our eye, the center of our souls…and our everything.

3. You Are

by Kirk Franklin & The Family

If you could describe your father, one would most likely say that your father is everything you need…and everything you need…he is.

4. We Are Our Heavenly Father’s Children

by Bishop James Morton

This medley is one that penetrates the heart. In this song, Bishop Morton of New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church describes our relationship with the Heavenly Father and how he protects, loves and cares for us.

5. Memories (When Will I See You Again)

by the Canton Spirituals

Hymns such as this one which is dedicated to fathers are very hard to come by nowadays. This special hymn touches the soul of anybody who has lost their father and hopes to see them again.

6. Father Me

by Shekinah Glory

Written by Joseph McCargo, this hymn is about being safe and protected while being wrapped in the arms of God. Much like Safe in His Arms, this hymn gives the indication that while wrapped in the arms of the Father, everything will be fine and nothing will trouble you.

7. Dance with My Father

by Luther Vandross

It is hard to find someone who has not heard of this famous song by the legendary Luther Vandross. He had written a song for his father whom he had lost many years ago and his one wish is to dance with his father just one more time. Beware, this song is a real tearjerker.

On this Father’s Day, let us treasure, honor and respect our beloved fathers.

In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge. Proverbs 14:26 (ESV)
