David Knight is the founder of MYCSN.org, a social network dedicated to the Christian community and to furthering God’s kingdom. In this interview he tells us a little bit of the background and his vision for the future of his Christian Social Network:
Tell me a little about MYCSN.ORG
MYCSN.ORG is a family-friendly social networking site for individuals that are not comfortable with inappropriate content, language, images and videos that are circulating on some of the worldly social networks.
What was your background before starting MYCSN.ORG?
My background is information technology. I’m retired military, I have 15 years of experience in corporate America. And for the past maybe 25 years I’ve been working with technology.
I see that you feature a fundraising section on the MYCSN.ORG website. Tell me a little about how that works?
MYCSN, Inc is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization and one of the things that we do is raise funds for churches and nonprofits. It’s absolutely free to join MYCSN.ORG, however we have subscription services built in for raising funds for the different campaigns and organizations that we want to give to.
Has public response so far been less positive than you’d hoped, or exceeded your expectations?
The public response so far has been very positive however the call to action has been very disappointing. For years Christians complain about the experience on social networking and you hear church leaders talk about the destructive experiences that social media has brought into families, communities and worship. However they stay on the public social network because of a couple reasons: one, they may not know about MYCSN.ORG or two, they are waiting for an endorsement or invitation from a high profile celebrity. For the most part people are followers and until we can get a high-powered leader to join our movement we believe that acceptance of what we have created is going to take some time for people to get used to.
Is MYCSN.ORG more oriented towards churches and organizations, or individual people? Do you see this changing in the near future?
Currently we are more oriented toward individuals. We do see the future of partnering with churches and organizations to help increase membership as well as provide a vehicle by which organizations can meet their financial needs.
What is your vision for MYCSN.ORG in the future – whether it’s months from now, or years down the road?
We believe that MYCSN.ORG was Holy Spirit inspired so it’s here to stay and with 30+ million Christians interacting on social media, the future has great potential. Once again, our obedience was to create what God inspired us to create. We believe that MYCSN.ORG will one day be mentioned in the same breath as the other social networks are.
What’s your favorite part of running MYCSN.ORG?
My favorite part of MYCSN.ORG is being able to create campaigns to help people and to bring souls to Christ. We have a program called Miracle Monday: every first Monday of the month we give up to $250 to a needy family. During the holiday season of 2014 we gave $3100 gift cards to needy families. At the end of the year and 2015 we are having a MYCSN.ORG Archangel Award show where we’re going to recognize 10 individuals for the great work that they do in ministry. You can find that campaign at www.mycsnawards.com
Is there anything you’d like to share about your personal testimony?
The one thing that I would like to share is at about three years ago I walked away from corporate America with a high six-figure income to do what I believe what God has called me to do. These past two years have been an absolute blessing. God provided the vision and he has also provided the provisions to accomplish this mission.
Do you have a favorite Bible verse, or a verse that represents the message of MYCSN.ORG?
The Bible verse that represents MYCSN.ORG is Mark 16:15, “go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” What better way to reach all the world, in the power of social media through the Internet.
What is one of your favorite comments or testimonies from a fan or user of MYCSN.ORG?
Once members sign up, they are in awe of all that we have created. And so we see emails and messages of thanks and excitement for what God has inspired us to do.
Any final thoughts you’d like to share?
MYCSN.ORG is not just a social networking site – it is a movement and we intend to change the world of social media through our social media revival. “Put God in to every area of your life including social media”
I’m grateful to David for sharing this vision about changing the face of social media for the better and sharing Christ with the world. You can find out more about MYSCN.ORG and sign up on their website:
